Key dates

The next municipal election is Monday, October 24, 2022.

The following are key dates for the 2022 Municipal Election:

Monday, May 2, 2022  at 8:30 a.m.

First day to file a Nomination Paper for the offices of Mayor, County Councillor and  School Board Trustee:

• Once the Nomination paper has been filed with the Clerk, candidates can start raising and spending money on their campaign.
• Preliminary spending limit is provided to candidates.
• Preliminary self-contribution limit is provided to candidates running for Mayor, County Councillor and School Board Trustee.

First day to file a notice of registration as a third party advertiser:

• Third party advertisers cannot raise or spend money on their campaign, or advertise, until their registration is received/ processed by the Clerk.
• Preliminary spending limit is provided to third party advertisers upon certification.

Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2 p.m.

Deadline for candidates to:

• File a nomination;
• Withdraw a nomination;
• Change office

Thursday, September 1, 2022

The voters list is made available to candidates.

Monday, September 26, 2022

• The last day to provide final spending limits to candidates and registered third party advertisers;
• The last day to provide final self-contribution limits to candidates running for Mayor, County Councillor and Councillor

Friday, October 21, 2022

• Last day to register as a third party advertiser

Friday, October 14 to Sunday October 23, 2022

• Advance Voting period

Monday, October 24, 2022

Information for Candidates

2022 Election - Candidates' Information Package

Use of Municipal Resources for Election Purposes Policy

• Candidate must be a resident of the municipality or a non-resident owner or tenant of land in the municipality or the spouse of such non-resident owner or tenant;
• A Canadian citizen and at least 18 years old;
• Not legally prohibited from voting; and not disqualified by any legislation from holding municipal office.
• You will need 25 signatures on your nomination form and must pay a fee of $100 ($200 for mayor)

Information for Voters

Anyone can vote in a municipal election who, on the day of the election, is: 

• 18 years of age or older 
• a Canadian citizen; and 
• a resident of the municipality or a property owner or tenant or the spouse of an owner or tenant in the municipality during a specified time just before the election.  
• Your name must be on the voters' list in order for you to cast a ballot.

Add your name to the voters' list

If you do not receive a voter information letter in the mail, please check with the Clerks office to see if your information is up to date.   You can also call the Town of Arnprior at telephone 613-623-1818. 

• You must apply at the Clerks Office at 105 Elgin Street West, Arnprior, ON if you want to add your name to the list or correct your information. You have until the close of voting on October 24 to apply for any changes.
• If you are applying to add your name to the voters’ list, you will be asked to provide proof that you are eligible to vote.

Information for Third Parties

Third party advertising refers to advertisements or other materials that support, promote or oppose a candidate, or support, promote or oppose a “yes” or “no” answer to a question on the ballot. Third party in this context is a person or entity who is not a candidate.
