As we close out another challenging year, there is much to look back on with pride. The Town of Arnprior has continued to be resilient. You came together as a community to support both neighbours and those in need. I would like to thank you for all the ways that you have contributed.
Incredible examples of the kindness and spirit of this community were seen in the form of donations received in support of the historic O’Brien Theatre which were more than double the goal, T.A.P. (Teachers Against Poverty) being able to fill wish lists for over 300 children and teens and, as always, the Arnprior and District Food Bank helping to those in need this year with the help of your generosity. The support of local taxpayers and businesses made possible the opening of the new expanded Grove Nursing Home, continuing the commitment to long-term care for the greater Arnprior area for years to come.
Gatherings and festivities may have been limited once again but that did not hinder holiday celebrations. The Greater Arnprior Chamber of Commerce continued to support local business with their Moonlight and Mistletoe Shopping events, the Arnprior Legion Drive-by Visit with Santa kept spirits high, while the Annual Christmas Lights Contest made the Town look merry and bright.
As we head into the New Year, I would like to remind everyone to remain diligent with following the Health Unit recommendations; wearing masks, social distancing when required, getting vaccinations, and restricting the number of people at functions.
It is also important to note that restrictions continue to affect our local businesses. When you can, please shop local. Ordering take-out, online shopping, using local services and curbside pick up can make a difference. Take advantage of the Live Love Local program when you do.
We are encouraged and optimistic to have more news regarding a new industry taking over the former Sandvik site coming in 2022.
On behalf of Council, Town Staff, my family and myself, I want to take this opportunity to wish each and every one of you a happy, prosperous and healthy New Year.
Take care, and be safe,
Walter Stack,
Mayor
