The first project of the Town’s Waterfront Master Plan is underway with the revitalization of the waterfront trail (Gillies Trail) from Madawaska Street to Robert Simpson Park. Over the course of the next six weeks, temporary trail closures will be in place as work is being completed. The public are asked to adhere to all signage and stay out of restricted areas during this temporary service disruption to our waterfront space.
This Waterfront Revitalization project will see a 1.2 km section of Gillies Trail paved (3-meter-wide pathway), featuring lighting, benches and waste/recycling receptacles that will enhance the enjoyment, functionality and accessibility of the Town’s waterfront along the western shore of the Madawaska River and into Robert Simpson Park.
In preparation for this major project, existing seating and waste receptacles along the waterfront have been removed. For those benches that were in commemoration, new plaques will be placed on the new benches along the waterfront when the project is completed.
Users of the Municipal Marina and boat launch will continue to have access to their boat and use of the launch, however parking will be restricted along the waterfront when the project reaches that section of the trail.
