The Town of Arnprior has embraced Recreation and Parks Month by creating a new campaign that will provide barrier free activities throughout the month of June. This campaign is called ‘Recreation Passport’ and is made possible by the Community Better Challenge, run by ParticipACTION.
“The goal of this campaign is to provide barrier free activities that foster strong mental, social, and physical lifestyles,” says Lucas Power, Program and Events Coordinator. “We worked to bring new activities to Town that our community can try and hopefully continue to be involved in.”
Through the Recreation Passport campaign the Town of Arnprior will host 16 free events/activities that the community can participate in, with sports ranging from Beach Volleyball, Sledge Hockey, to Water Polo and more. Participants are encouraged to pick up their free passport at the Nick Smith Centre or Town Hall (starting June) and to collect stamps for every scheduled activity they participate in. Passports will also be available at Priorpalooza on June 4 and the Arnprior Market dates in June. Residents can then trade in those stamps for ballots at the end of the campaign to be entered in to win one of five prizes.
A full list of activities and campaign details are available at www.arnprior.ca/recpassport
Also in June is the ParticipACTION Community Better Challenge. The challenge is open to everyone. All active minutes tracked on the ParticipACTION app and website from June 1 – 30 count toward a community’s total score. One community will earn the top prize of $100,000 and title of being “Canada’s Most Active Community”. There will also be prizing in each province and territory. Log your active minutes on the ParticipACTION app or website to contribute to the Town’s overall active minutes. Download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play Store.
The Town of Arnprior would like to thank the many organizations that made this campaign possible: Ottawa Titans Water Polo, Ottawa Valley Cycling and Active Transportation Alliance, Ottawa Carleton Wheelchair Sports Association, Ottawa Ospreys Rugby Football Club, Sledge Hockey Eastern Ontario, George and Ruth Brown, Mountain Road Homestead, Susan Whitelock Dance Studio, Bring It On!, Steelheads and Strikes, Gilks Sports and Promo, and White Lake Marina.
