The Town would like to thank the Arnprior Rotary Club for their generous donation of two Cyclohalt Deluxe Bicycle Repair Stations which have been installed along two trails in the Town of Arnprior. Residents will find one located along the Algonquin Trail near the Daniel Street intersection and the second is located at the entrance to the Gillies Trail near the Arnprior Public Library.
Through their work in establishing the Town’s Millennium Trails in 2000, including the Gillies Trail, the local Rotary Club members recognize the benefits of physical active to improve both the physical and mental health of Arnprior and area residents. The Club continues their support of these initiatives locally through trail improvements such as the installation of bicycle repair stations.
Mayor Stack expressed the Town’s gratitude by sharing “on behalf of Council we would like to thank the Arnprior Rotary Club and their many volunteers for their fundraising and dedication to improving the trail system in Arnprior. These stations will be well used by residents and visitors alike and are a great asset to the trail system.”
“When the lockdown started in the spring of 2020 and we had just launched our successful Food and Gas card distribution program, we were trying to think of a project which would be open to all area residents and inspire them to get outside and lift their spirits. We felt that the Bicycle Repair Stations would support exercise and outdoor activity of people of all ages and abilities and build upon the existing trails in town” said Gerhard Peters of the Arnprior Rotary Club.
With increase interest in cycling within the community and the students soon returning to school, drivers and cyclists alike are reminded that people on bicycles have the same rights and responsibilities as people behind the wheel of a vehicle. Yield to bicyclists as you would motorists and do not underestimate their speed. Give cyclists room. Do not pass too closely. Pass bicyclists as you would any other vehicle—when it’s safe to move over into an adjacent lane.
