Three municipalities in the County of Renfrew have partnered up at the annual Association of Municipalities of Ontario (AMO) Conference for a joint delegation on infrastructure.
The Town of Arnprior, Town of Renfrew and Township of Whitewater Region met with Amarjot Sandhu, the Parliamentary Assistant to the Minister of Infrastructure on Monday, August 21st, 2023.
Renfrew Mayor Tom Sidney says, “The Town of Renfrew is grateful to have received significant federal and provincial infrastructure funding to help repair and upgrade aging infrastructure in the community and several projects are either shovel ready or in the design stage in order to be ready in 2024.”
Arnprior Mayor Lisa McGee says, “The Town of Arnprior has approximately $24.8 million in infrastructure projects planned over the next five years including a number of large-scale road projects, the replacement of both ice surfaces at the Nick Smith Centre and the Robert Simpson Park Waterfront Revitalization.”
The joint delegation made requests for sustainable funding, continued investments to meet infrastructure deficits and funding to reduce the environmental impacts of climate change.
Whitewater Region Mayor Neil Nicholson adds, “While one-time funding and grants are very much appreciated, sustainable funding from the provincial and federal governments are needed to help small municipalities in Ontario grow and stay on top of local infrastructure.”
Arnprior Councillor Billy Denault and Whitewater Region Councillor Connie Tabbert were also part of the delegation seeking funding for a new federal-provincial infrastructure program.
The annual AMO conference brings together Ontario’s 444 municipalities to achieve shared goals and meet common challenges. The 2023 AMO conference is being held in London, Ontario and runs from August 20th to 23rd, 2023.
