Arenas, Shinny, Skating
Looking to rent ice? Check out the ice availability page of our website to see what might work for you.
Looking for extra hockey or ringette practice, or just to go for a skate? View our drop-in times online to see when you can hit the ice. We offer Minor Shinny (ages 9-12), Junior Shinny (ages 13-15), Ringette Shinny (ages 10-15), Adult Shinny (16+), Women’s Shinny (16+). Please note for all shinny programs:
- Full equipment (including neck guards for all youth players)
- Payment must be made in advance online or at the front counter
- Capacity is limited to 20 skaters
- Body contact and slapshots are prohibited
In addition to our regular public skates we have Toonie Skates over lunch hour during the week and a free Parent with Tots & Seniors Skates daily during the week from 1-2pm. Please note that helmets are required on skaters aged 12 and under. Strollers are permitted on the ice as long as the wheels are cleaned and the child is wearing a helmet.
Shinny Memberships
Effective May 1st, individuals seeking participation in Shinny Hockey or Shinny Ringette are required to enroll in a free Shinny Membership and complete an annual waiver. Two waivers have been established: one designated for individuals under the age of 16, which a legal guardian must complete, titled "Waiver and Release Form - Shinny for Under 16," and another tailored for adults aged 16 and above, termed "Waiver and Release Form - Shinny for 16 and Over."
This new requirement requires approximately five minutes, and we strongly advise completing the waiver beforehand ensuring prompt access to the arena. Note that Nick Smith Centre employees are unable to complete waivers on behalf of participants due to the legal nature of the waiver.
Upon successful completion of the waiver, participants regain access to the online registration system for Shinny sessions, our quickest sign-up option. Alternatively, those opting for in-person registration at the front desk should anticipate a slight extension in processing time.
The waiver can be completed online here.
