The Town would like to address the article published by the Arnprior Chronicle-Guide dated September 23rd, 2021 entitled “Council rejects proposed Arnprior school citing safety concerns”. At the Council meeting of September 13th, Council considered a request from the Conseil des écoles catholiques du Centre-est (CECCE) to amend the previously approved Site Plan for a new elementary and future secondary school at 240 Baskin Drive. The School Board had received approval in August of 2017 for the Site Plan for the proposed school, however did not enter into the Site Plan Agreement at that time as they were not prepared to proceed with construction. Due to the time that has lapsed since the application was approved by Council, and the fact that there is a new compliment of Councillors, staff elected to bring the application back to Council with a new by-law to authorize the Mayor and Clerk to enter into an amended agreement.
At the meeting, Council requested the Board to provide an updated Transportation Study to reflect the changes to the area over the past several years and deferred a decision pending review of the Study. The Study will list the current and future conditions and address any potential mitigation measures the Board could implement to address the impacts of their development on the traffic in the area.
The matter will be brought back to Council once the required Study is provided and reviewed. A copy of the Staff report on this matter can be accessed here.
