The play structure and features at Fourth Avenue Park were removed on April 6 as the play structure had surpassed its lifecycle. While the park has been a welcome place for outdoor recreation over the years, also featuring swings sets and some years an outdoor rink, this location is not Town of Arnprior property and therefore the amenities at this park will not be replaced. The Town intends to relocate the existing swing sets to another park.
“All town play structures are inspected on a regular basis and last fall this structure did not pass our inspections. We apologize for the abrupt removal of the structure without advance notice to residents in the area, however it was done with the safety of the public in mind,” said Graeme Ivory, Director of Recreation.
McLean Park features the same amenities as Fourth Avenue with a play structure and swing sets with the added benefit of a small gazebo and its close proximity to McLean Beach and the ball diamonds.
Hydro Park East, located behind the Quality Inn, also offers open green space and the beautiful view of the Madawaska river.
“I would also like to thank the Arnprior Optimist Club who contributed the original play structure at Fourth Avenue Park. The club’s continued contribution to recreation in our community for all to enjoy is appreciated,” Ivory added.
Further information on the future of parks space in the area will become available through the Recreation and Parks Master Plan project that is being undertaken in 2023. This project will include several public engagement opportunities.
