Back to SearchThe Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry – Pembroke District, is advising area residents that a Flood Watch is in effect along areas of the Ottawa River until Friday, May 03, 2024.
A significant multi-day rain event is forecast to begin on Saturday, April 27, 2024. Landscape conditions with dormant vegetation and saturated soils have limited capacity to store additional moisture. Although no widespread flooding is expected at this time, water levels and flow in rivers and lakes will increase, and flooding in low-lying areas and areas with poor drainage is possible.
Residents and visitors in the area should keep a close watch on conditions and exercise caution around rivers and streams. Please alert and monitor any children under your care to possible dangers and supervise their activities.
The ministry is closely monitoring the weather and developing watershed conditions. Further updates will be issued as appropriate.

Description of Weather System
Winds for the next couple of days are expected to be from the North and be calmer than they have been since last week. A significant multi-day rain event is forecast to begin on Saturday (April 27). Forecasts indicate total rainfall of near 50 mm is possible, but storm tracks and total precipitation remain uncertain.
Description of Current Conditions
Flows and water levels along the main stem of the Ottawa River are slightly above normal for this time of year due to recent precipitation. Flows and levels are expected to slightly increase in some locations today and tomorrow as more spring runoff is released from some reservoirs to provide additional storage in advance of rainfall anticipated from Saturday to Tuesday. Later, levels and flows should stabilize, and may start to decline depending on the amount of rain received over the coming week.
