Reporting directly to the Museum Curator, the Education and Program Outreach Coordinator is a key role that helps increase awareness of local history, the importance of Arnprior's Indigenous cultural heritage, the museum collection, an understanding and appreciation of the museum, the community, and the history of the Arnprior area while leveraging partnerships in the broader community. The Coordinator will develop education programs and resources for the community, including groups of older adults, and for teachers that make meaningful links with the school curriculum. The Education and Program Outreach Coordinator is a Young Canada Works Intern position.
The primary responsibilities for the Education and Program Outreach Coordinator position include (but not limited to) the following:
- Create, develop, coordinate, implement and evaluate a full slate of educational programs which correspond directly with the Ontario school curriculum for children and youth from elementary school to high school and beyond.
- Responsible for delivering programs, coordinating and scheduling class visits, researching the needs of teachers relative to the curriculum, maintaining records and statistics, maintaining and handling artifacts in a safe and effective manner.
- Responsible for creating and implementing a range of talks, tours, lectures, programs and special events for the public according to community interests and needs while leveraging and contributing to community partnerships.
- Responsible for marketing and promotion of programs through social media and the museums website.
- Will help develop and provide museum exhibition interpretation for purposes of programming and museum tours.
- Will be an active and effective member of the Museum team, and is expected to provide input on museum activities, exhibits, policy and procedures as well as community engagement while fostering an environment for exceptional visitor services.
- Help coordinate and schedule volunteers for various jobs and events as required and help to supervise them in their roles.
- Follow the opening and closing procedures for the building.
- Play an active role in the general housekeeping of the museum and play an active role in health and safety.
- Perform other related duties and/or special projects as assigned.
Eligibility: In order to qualify for a position, the individual must be eligible for funding from Young Canada Works and be:
- A Canadian citizen or permanent resident, or have refugee status in Canada;
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada;
- Be between 16 and 30 years of age at the start of employment;
- Meet the specific eligibility criteria of the program to which you apply;
- Be registered in the YCW online candidate inventory;
- Be willing to commit to the full duration of the work assignment;
- Not have another full-time job during the YCW work assignment;
- Be unemployed or underemployed; and
- Not be receiving Employment Insurance (EI) benefits while employed in a YCW work assignment.
- A graduate from college or university, preferably in education, marketing, Museum Studies or history;
- Have a valid class ‘G’ driver’s license for off-site work;
- A satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check is required for candidates who are 18 years of age or older prior to hire;
- Demonstrated experience and familiarity with the Ontario curriculum and working with schools;
- Knowledge of Canadian history
