On behalf of Council and staff, Mayor McGee recognized the long-standing service of Rick Frivalt who has worked within the Operations Department over the last 38 years (including 32 years as a full-time staff member). Council presented Mr. Frivalt with a gift as a token of their gratitude and wished him all the best in the next chapter of his life.
Graeme Ivory, Director of Recreation, and Lucas Power, Program and Events Supervisor, provided an update to Council on the Town’s involvement with the 2025 IIHF World Junior Championship later this year. The Town of Arnprior will welcome Latvia to the Nick Smith Centre for their World Junior Championship pre-competition camp this December that will conclude with a game against Switzerland on December 23 at 7:00 PM. Arnprior will also host another game four days earlier when Germany faces Kazakhstan on December 19 at 7:00 PM. Alix Jolicoeur, Manager of Community Services / Planner, provided an update on the new Provincial Planning Statement (PPS) which took effect on October 20th, 2024. The new PPS applies to all decisions that affect a planning matter made on or after the effective date and the PPS policies will override conflicting municipal planning policies until such time as they are updated to be in line with the new policy.
In accordance with Section 14 of the Town’s Procedural By-Law, the General Manager, Client Services / Treasurer provided Council with a bi-annual Financial Report for the third quarter of the 2024 fiscal year (January 1st, 2024 to September 30th, 2024). The intent of the report is to provide Council with a clear picture of the Town’s financial status, identify any financial matters of concern and update Council on progress and improvements made to date on finance related initiatives.
Council passed a new Cemetery Rules and Regulations By-Law which provides for rules and regulations with respect to the Town’s municipal cemeteries including the sale or transfer of interment rights, entitlements and restrictions related to internment rights. The new by-law will not come into effect until it has been approved by the Registrar of the Cemetery Regulation Unit at the Ministry of Consumer and Government Services. Council proclaimed November 1st to 7th, 2024 as “Carbon Monoxide Awareness Week” in the Town of Arnprior and encourages local residents to participate in the outreach activities planned by the Fire Prevention / Protection Officers to highlight the simple steps that everyone can take to limit the risks posed by carbon monoxide to themselves and their families.
In addition to the above noted by-laws, Council adopted a Parkland Conveyance By-Law, Brownfield Remediation Tax Assistance Program (BRTAP) Agreement By-Law with OVD Inc. (12 Thomas Street South), and appointed County Councillor Dan Lynch to the Arnprior Airport Commission, replacing Councillor Billy Denault.
Council passed a resolution to the County of Renfrew in support of the requested one-year extension of draft plan approval for the Marshall’s Bay Meadows subdivision.
Council also waived the rental fees associated with the Robert Simpson Park Gazebo for the Arnprior Regional Health Foundation’s Penny Stashick Ugly Christmas Sweater Walk taking place on Saturday, December 7th, 2024 between 8:00 AM and 12:00 PM.
