Council heard a presentation from Lacey Smith of the Save the Grove Again Committee outlining a request from the group for Council to undertake an Ecological Assessment of the Gillies Grove in advance of potential applications for development of adjacent lands.
The Manager of Culture/Curator, Emily Stovel, provided Council with an overview of all the activities and programs enjoyed during 2024. The Manager of Community Services/Planner also provided an overview of the Building, Economic Development and Planning Departments activities in 2024.
Jennifer Morawiec, General Manager of Client Services/Treasurer presented Council with a draft update to the User Fees and Charges By-law which will be considered for adoption at the next regular Council meeting on February 10th, 2025.
Council agreed to submit an application to the GMF’s Growing Canada’s Community Canopies Tree Planting Program. The Grant would assist in 50% of the costs of a program to plan 181 trees in 13 sites which include municipal park and trail properties, as well as several schools within the Town. If successful, the project would be completed in 2026.
Council agreed to construct an off-leash dog park at McLean Avenue Park in 2026. Staff will be reporting back to Council on alternative revenue options that would be sufficient to support the annual maintenance costs for the dog park. Council will also be looking for residents to come forward to form A volunteer Community Group committed to support the off-leash dog park.
Council proclaimed February, 2025 as Black History Month in the Town of Arnprior and encourages all residents, staff, and Members of Council to take the time to participate and to learn more and understand how these communities continue to help shape the story of Canada.
Council passed a by-law to appoint Brenda Guiney to the Arnprior Public Library Board, representing the Township of Lanark Highlands, for the remainder of the 2022-2026 term of Council or until their successor is appointed.
Council granted a request for waiving the Nick Smith Centre Community Hall rental fees for the Arnprior Regional Health Auxiliary’s 2025 Annual General Meeting on June 23rd, 2025.
