Council received a Business Retention and Expansion Study. The BR&E, prepared by Shore Tanner & Associates and Fotenn Planning + Design, was designed to assist in strengthening the local and regional economy by providing strategic direction on retaining and growing our current businesses resulting in increased jobs and investment in our community. Council will use the Study as a long-range planning tool to guide and inform future decisions and implementation by staff.
Council received information on updates proposed to the Licencing By-law for Market Vendors. The amended by-law will be considered by Council at the regular Council meeting of March 10th.
Council awarded the Purchase of a Case Backhoe with accessories to J.R. Brisson Limited, for a total of $177,800.40 (plus HST), in accordance with the recently approved Capital budget.
Council received a staff report regarding opportunities to provide an enhanced, accessible and equitable user experience both on and off ice as a result of the Arena Revitalization project. Off the ice, this project will provide varying degrees of flexible space for meetings, programming, events, storage and improved public viewing areas. Staff were directed to negotiate a lease agreement with the Arnprior Jr B Packers for meeting space.
Council received the 2024 Statement of Renumeration and Expenses paid to Council members and members of local boards. Salary, expenses and benefits paid to Members of Council in 2024 were outlined, as well as the honorarium provided to Committee of Adjustment members.
Council passed the following resolutions:
Women’s Sexual Assault Centre Renfrew County (Sexual Assault Awareness Month) – Council agreed to hang the “We Stand with Survivors” banner for the month of May 2025 in the municipality.
United States Imposition of Tariffs on Canada - Council endorsed the federal and provincial call to action to buy Canadian where and when possible; requested the federal and provincial governments work with municipalities on measures to protect Canadian consumers and businesses; and called on the Federal and Provincial government to remove any impediments to municipalities preferring to engage Canadian companies for capital projects and supplies when appropriate and feasible.
Canada Post and the Industrial Inquiry Commission - Town of Arnprior supports the County of Renfrew in their written submission to the Industrial Inquiry Commission that will work with the Canadian Union of Postal Workers (CUPW) and Canada Post to examine the future of the public post office, including possible changes to the Canadian Postal Service Charter.
