I am truly saddened at the news of the untimely passing of my friend and community champion, Glenn Arthur, former Director of Recreation for the Town of Arnprior. On behalf of Council, staff and our entire municipality, I extend my deepest condolences to the Arthur Family and to his community of friends. Flags will be lowered to half-mast at Town Facilities Tuesday morning to honour the life of Glenn.
We have lost a great community supporter and leader to so many. During a career of public service that spanned decades, Glenn’s legacy will live on in the people he has helped, taught and supported in so many ways. Glenn, who passed away late last week, was a dedicated employee and a mentor and friend to many in the community.
In recognition of his commitment to the Town and on the occasion of his retirement after 35 years with the Town, December 1st, 2017 was proclaimed “Glenn Arthur Day” in the Town of Arnprior. The proclamation stated that “since 1982 the Recreation Department has been led by Glenn Arthur, the Director of Recreation, whose leadership has created an environment that has contributed to many successful economic development activities which have established the Town of Arnprior with a solid reputation as an exceptional place to live, work and play; Glenn Arthur has been instrumental in creating and attracting recreation programs and leisure services which are the envy of our comparator municipalities across the Province of Ontario; and there are many ways to measure a person’s legacy, however, none so special as dedicating a place otherwise known as their “home away from home”. At a ceremony on December 1st, 2017 Arena B was dedicated and renamed “Glenn Arthur Arena” at the Nick Smith Centre, in recognition of Glenn’s home away from home.
I cannot imagine what Arnprior would look like without the dedication and commitment he gave to everything he did as an employee, and as a volunteer.
Sincerely,
Lisa McGee,
Mayor
