In conjunction with the Test Your Smoke Alarm Day Open House at the Stanley Tourangeau Fire/Police Services Centre, the Arnprior Fire Department will sound off the Town’s former Air Raid Siren on Saturday, September 28th, 2024 at 12:00 PM (noon).
Once resting at the original Town Hall / Fire Hall, the siren was used to notify the volunteer fire department of a fire in the community as at the time, it could be heard in all wards of the Town.
The siren was moved after being refurbished in 1997 to where it now rests on the tower of the current Stanley Tourangeau Fire/Police Services Centre on Meehan Street and it is in place as a back-up to the current modern systems.
At 12:00 PM (noon) on Saturday, the siren will be engaged for a 1-minute cycle as a demonstration to visitors and a reminder to everyone to participate in the practice of testing your home smoke alarms to ensure they are working properly in order to protect everyone in our community from a fire event in their homes.
