The Nick Smith Centre will reopen both its arenas January 25th after repairs to its refrigeration systems were completed ahead of schedule.
“Both ice surfaces remained intact and the repairs went smoothly which has helped significantly reduce our downtime,” said Graeme Ivory, Director of Recreation. “We are grateful to our partners at CIMCO for their extraordinary efforts and to recreation and public works staff for their swift action.”
User groups are being updated of the favourable news that access to the arenas resumes as of 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. All participants are encouraged to check with their respective association for any changes or updates to their scheduled games or practices.
“I would like to thank our neighbours in Mississippi Mills and the Cavanagh Sensplex who supported some of the user groups that were displaced by this situation,” added Ivory.
Damage to the arena’s refrigeration system was discovered on January 21st forcing the cancellation of ice usage later the next day. With the risk of losing the ice to repair the damaged piping, the estimated return to use was February 1st.
The Town of Arnprior looks forward to the return of all programming and events, most notably the top-ranked Arnprior Packers home game this Friday, January 27th at 7:30 p.m. and the upcoming Ontario Winter Games that take place February 2nd-5th at the Nick Smith Centre with ringette taking to the ice.
