Reporting to the Program and Events Supervisor, the Recreation Programmer is a part-time position that will provide operational support to the Program and Events Supervisor by providing planning, coordination, and direct leadership to various recreational programs offered by the Recreation Department, for all segments of the community.
The primary responsibilities for this position include (but are not limited to) the following:
- Assist the Program and Events Supervisor to develop, implement and facilitate recreational programs and special events.
- Planning and organization of activities, scheduling, basic budgeting, direct leadership of programs, facilitation of individual and group activities for a variety of recreational and sport programs offered by the Recreation Department. These programs may include, but are not limited to: volleyball, Pre-School programs, after school programs, ball hockey, holiday and special camps and youth programs.
- Provide customer service to all users of the Nick Smith Centre facility and Recreation Programs, while always maintaining a positive and professional demeanour.
- Maintain and support relationship with user groups, services clubs, community organizations and partners that provide program offerings and supports in our community.
- Provide general support during events, by conducting regular checks of facility equipment, and by reporting any unsafe conditions, damage, and/or vandalism to the Program and Events Supervisor and Director of Recreation.
- Assist with special events setup, operation, and teardown including but not limited to assisting members of the public with directions or any inquiries they may have, preparing and operating activities for the day, grounds control, including clean-up, and other tasks as required by the specific event.
- Building programs to be viewable and accessible to our clients via our online booking system and provide support developing website and social media content.
- Perform work in accordance with applicable Provincial and Municipal legislations and regulations including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act, corporate strategy, and in accordance with internal policies and procedures of the Town.
- Protect the health and safety of others and oneself by adopting safe work practices, reporting unsafe conditions immediately, using personal protective equipment as required by the nature of the position, and attending all relevant in-services training regarding occupational health and safety.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will have a minimum of:
- Minimum completion of High School
- High Five Training Certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Principles of Healthy Child Development
- Quest Training
- Ausome Ottawa Autism in Sport Training or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- First Aid and CPR-AED Certification or ability to obtain within a reasonable timeframe.
- Valid G Class Drivers Licence
- Ability to obtain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check.
- Previous employment experience planning and facilitating recreational, sport or instructional programs and activities for a wide range of ages.
- Experience providing customer services and being able to assess needs to meet service delivery standards.
- Previous experience with computer programs to coordinate program registration and administration.
- Physically capable to perform general labour and maintenance duties.
- Capable of following safe work practices and procedures.
Asset Qualifications:
- Experience using PerfectMind (xplorRecreation)
- Previous occupational health and safety knowledge would be an asset.
